Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)
Having protruding or prominent ears may be a source of self-consciousness and embarrassment. Some people may have experienced merciless teasing during school, and there are many men and women who feel that their hairstyles are even dictated by the appearance of their ears, always wearing it long and down to cover the ears. Fortunately ear pinning (otoplasty) is a plastic surgery procedure which can reduce the size of the ears and pin them back closer to the head.
Ear Pinning Surgery (Otoplasty): What to Expect
- Surgical Setting - these procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis meaning you go home on the same day
- Anesthesia - General anesthetic or intravenous sedation combined with local anesthesia
About the Surgery
The incision is hidden behind the ear, through this incision the cartilage can be
molded or removed to bring the ear closer to the face and to give it an improved shape
After Surgery
Most patients feel well after 1 or 2 days but take 1week off from work. The ears are
wrapped in a headband or turban-like dressing for about 1 week. After about 2 weeks
light exercise can be resumed but sports and vigorous exercise must be avoided for
4 weeks.
