Uma Menon, MD

Dr. Uma Menon is a board-certified Neurologist and Epileptologist who joined the Department of Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine as an Associate Professor and Chief of the division of Neurology on September 1, 2021.

Dr. Menon completed her medical training in India, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine from Jamaica (West Indies), and then moved to the Unites States to complete a residency in Neurology (2009) from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. This was followed by a Fellowship in Neurophysiology (2010) from the Cleveland Clinic (Ohio).

Dr. Menon then worked at Tulane University, New Orleans, during 2010-2013, where she was the Neurology Residency training program director. Dr. Menon moved to Washington, DC, in 2013, and obtained an MBA in Healthcare from George Washington University, followed by another Fellowship (Epilepsy) at Yale University in 2016. She then moved back to New Orleans and was working at Ochsner Medical Center until her move to Atlanta to join Morehouse School of Medicine.

Dr. Menon was awarded ‘Fellow’ status by the American Epilepsy Society (2017) and American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (2017), and she is the current Chair of the Education section of the IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism and Social Justice) taskforce of the American Neurological Association. She has been the Vice-Chair of the Ethics section of the American Academy of Neurology since 2019. She also volunteers in committees of several other professional societies and epilepsy patient support groups.

Dr. Menon has been involved in teaching throughout her career and has published extensively and presented at several national and international meetings. She is an ardent patient and physician advocate and routinely participates in educational forums for professionals, patients, and the general public.

Dr. Menon will be starting a Neurology Residency training program at Morehouse School of Medicine shortly as she continues her work on ethics, advocacy, equity and anti-racism in Neurology and medicine.
